Week 15

Week 15 is here and bucks the trend of reporting in on every second week. In order to make things right, I’ll have a Week 16 update next week.

The Premier League continues to be an utter oddball for results this season. No one could’ve predicted Chelsea’s disastrously entertaining defence of their title (or lack thereof), Leicester continue to score goals for fun at the summit of the table, United are boring the socks off of us, and Liverpool have gone full gegen-press (never go full gegen-press).… More SMRTETA

Week 12

Here we go!

Another two weeks down in the Premier League and another two weeks of data to keep you warm and cozy as the Fall weather starts to kick in.  It’s interlull time again and yet another set of useless injuries are set to impact teams across the Premiership.

From an Arsenal perspective, it looks promising in terms of players returning from injury with the Ox, Ramsey and Bellerín all getting close.  It’ll hopefully be a welcome boost in a month that typically takes its toll on the Gunners.… More SMRTETA

Week 10

The fabled Week 10 is finally here and it’s easy to see why people tend to agree that by ten games in, trends start to emerge.  I’ll give a bit of a breakdown this week of some of the things I’m seeing and I’ll also start a new section – season predictions – which I’ll carry on until Week 38.

No better place to start than the top where despite a bore draw with bitter rivals United, City continue to lead almost all statistics being tracked.  … More SMRTETA

Week 8

Welcome back!

Some interesting trends beginning to emerge but as is so often said, I’m waiting until Week 10 to make any sort of bold predictions.

The biggest change to note in the graphic is the addition of Goals For to the Big Chart.  I had been tracking this already and although I’m most concerned with Goals Against and Total Shot Ratio on Target, I think it adds to the broader context of what I’m tracking.… More SMRTETA

This page is set aside for a bit of a hobby of mine: analytics.  Now granted I’m not the SMRTEST guy at this but over the past few years, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on predictive analytics with respect to football.

One of the things that I’ve really been interested in is the correlation between goals conceded and challenging for the title.  I genuinely believe that is one of the best indicators of League position (besides points).  … More SMRTETA
